    This theatre with long history counting from 1883 (the first opening was in 1881, but after devastating fire during the finishing works the theatre was closed and reopened 2 years later) has a large scope of drama, opera and ballet.

  • Laterna Magika

    Laterna Magika counts its history since 1958, when Alfred Radok and Josef Svoboda created the performance named Laterna magika for exhibition EXPO 58 in Brussels, Belgium. This performance later gave its name to the theatre.

  • Estate theatre

    The theatre is one of the most beautiful and historical theatre building in Europe. The aristocrat Frantisek Antonin Count Nostitz Rieneck, had built this theatre in classicisms style in 1781 - 1783. The famous world-known artists like W. A. Mozart, N. Paganini, Rubinstein, Carl Goldmark or Wenzl Scholze are unforgettably linked with this theatre.

    The State opera was built for The German Theatre Association in the 19th century. With its roomy auditorium and neo-Rococo decoration, this building is on of the most beautiful in Europe. The State opera was opened on Janurary 5, 1888 with the play of Wagners opera, The Mastersingers of Nurnberg.

    Among the most prestigious artist who performed here were conductor Gustav Mahler, Richarch Strauss or Arthur Nikisch, as well as soloists Anna Bahr-Mildenburg, Maria Jeritza, Enrico Caruso or Richard Kubla.

Puppet theatre

  • National Marionette Theatre

    The theatre is placed in the unique space, called The Kingdom of Puppets, of Municipal Library building, built in Art Deco style. They are performing traditional puppets theatre.

Concerts

The Czech musician artists are world-renowned, so it would be a shame not to visit some of theirs performances on your own. The classical music concerts are usually held in historical building, so you can join the music with sightseeing.

  • Rudolfinum

    The neo-renaissance building is placed on the bank of Vltava River. The idea to build here a House of Artists came from the Czech Insurance Company, as a part of celebrations of the 50th anniversary of its founding. They asked the crown prince Rudolf to become the patron and the building was named after him. Not only music is what you can admire here, there is a Rudolfinum Gallery as well, where various famous artists hold their exhibitions.

  • Municipal House

    The most significant Art Nouveau building is situated in the heart of Prague, just next to the Powder Gate. On the decoration participated famous Czech artists like Mikolas Ales, Max Svabinky or Josef Vaclav Myslbek. Its a multifunctional building, serving for concerts, conferences, balls or fashion shows.

  • St Nicolas Church (Old Town)

    The church built by Kilian Ignac Dientzenhofer in baroque style (1732-1737) is located in Old Town Square. Inside you will find a unique pipe organ and the ceiling frescos showing the life of the saints painted by Kosmas Damian Assam. Many Czech musical artist are having their performances here.

Cinemas

Even to visit a cinema it is not a bad idea after whole day spent by walking around charming Prague. Pragues cinemas offering a movies in original language or if is it Czech movie the English subtitles are sometimes added (you will find more in competent box office).

If you want to know something more, not only about Czechs, you should visit some of Pragues museums.

  • National Museum

    The National Museum is the largest museum in the Czech Republic and consists of five specialised institutes – the Historical Museum, the Museum of Natural Sciences, the Library of the National Museum, the Museum of Music (placed in different building), the Naprstek Museum of Asian, African and American Cultures (placed in different building).

  • Mucha Museum

    The museum is dedicated to the world famous Czech ART NOUVEAU artist Alphonse Mucha (1860-1939) and to his work. The exhibition paid attention especially to the period he spent in Paris and includes paintings, charcoal drawings, photographs, lithographs and pastels.

  • Kampa Museum

    The highlight of the museum is collection of two icons of 20th century art Otto Gutfreund and Frantisek Kupka. Museum brings to the attention these art collections and at the same time organizes temporary shows of Czech and international artist as well. The Kampa Museum was found by benefactor and art collector Mrs. Meda Mladek, and by this she fulfilled her and his husband dream.

  • The Czech Museum of fine Arts

    The Museum was established in 1963 as a regional gallery of the Central bohemian Region and is devoted to collecting 20th and 21st century art.

  • Kafka Museum

    This long term exhibition is dedicated to one of the greatest man of 20th century - Czech writer Franz Kafka (1883 - 1924). The exhibitions will show you most of the first edition of Kafka works, diaries, manuscripts, letters photographs and drawings.

  • National Technical Museum

    The museum is one of the oldest technical museums in Europe. In these walls you can find unique items like the first car made in Czech, astronomical equipment of Tycho Brahe and Johannes Kepler or the first test turbine of the inventor Viktor Kaplan. The National Technical Museum is scientific centre of the Czech Republic and proudly shows its valuables to whole world in newly reconstructed building.
